Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be better able to:
- Describe the distribution of co-occurring disorders (COD) mental health disorders in substance use disorders.
- Critically evaluate new science and describe how it changes the current understanding of addiction and co-occurring medical or psychiatric disorders.
- Develop practical applications for integrating new and emerging science into practice.
- Implement differential therapeutics based on current evidence and in consideration of presented co-occurring disorders principles where specific evidence is lacking .
- Identify gaps in the field of CODs that future research can address.
- Review the different FDA-approved and non-FDA pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments for the management of SUD, and how to combine them with the treatment of COD management of alcohol withdrawal.
